Branches

Interested persons of any age or ability (including non-players) from the UK and overseas can become a member of the Society by joining any Branch of their choice.

Branches organise events and gatherings at a local level. Contact details and branch information can be found below.

The National Office processes membership applications on behalf of the branches as well as hiring out harps, publishing music folios, organising courses, concerts, competitions and the Edinburgh International Harp Festival. If would you like to contact the National Office, you can find our contact details here.

NB: Please note that the National Office and the Edinburgh Branch are separate entities.

ABOUT NA CLARSAIREAN

Na Clàrsairean is the clarsach orchestra run by the Edinburgh branch of the Clarsach Society.  It welcomes players from all areas, whether or not they are society members.  There is a charge to cover the cost of running sessions – currently £6 per adult and £3 for children and students.

Please arrive at the venue in time to be tuned and ready to start playing at the start time.  Our sessions usually finish with lovely home baking tea and coffee.

Local Branch Workshops / Playdays

The branch organises two residential weekend courses annually, one at the end of September which takes place at Benslow Music in Hitchin, and the other in June, in Kent, Surrey, or Norfolk.  There are also a number of local groups within the branch, which hold playing meetings and/or workshops. Details of forthcoming events are circulated to branch members monthly by email.  Non members are welcome to attend branch events but will be charged a higher fee than members.

Contact secretarylondonse@clarsachsociety.co.uk for more details.
Future dates: Meetings are normally held monthly.

Branch Harp Hire

The branch has a number of harps for hire, mainly 34 string harps although some are smaller.  The monthly hire charge is generally £30, but less for some of the older or smaller harps.  A deposit equivalent to 3 months’ hire is required at the start of the hire period.  Further details are available on the branch website.  The branch harp hire administrator is Charles Hope, email harphirelondonse@clarsachsociety.co.uk.  The branch also has two loan harps available, which are loaned out at no charge for a period of one year starting in July each year.  Further details of the loan scheme, including eligibility and how to apply, are available on the branch website.
