Harp Hire: Terms and Conditions

  1. Clarsachs are only available for hire to paid-up members of The Clarsach Society.  Hirers must join one of the Branches of the Society before they will be allocated a clarsach. Membership must be maintained during the whole period of hire.
  2. If you wish to hire a clarsach from The Clarsach Society, you can have your name placed on the waiting list by paying the registration fee through our online facility.  We will acknowledge your payment by email and give you an approximate waiting time.
  3. The monthly hire charge and non-refundable admin charge payable at the commencement of the hire are available on the Harp Hire page of The Society’s website. The preferred method of payment is by monthly standing order.
  4. EIHF clarsachs are required to be returned for the period of the Edinburgh International Harp Festival (1 week in early April each year), and thus are hired to residents of Edinburgh and environs only, at a slightly reduced rate.
  5. Hirers will be required to sign a Hire Agreement at the commencement of the hire.
  6. Clarsachs remain the property of The Society at all times and the payment of a hire charge does not entitle the hirer to any right of ownership.
  7. Clarsachs are allocated by the National Office  as they become available.
  8. It is the responsibility of the hirer to arrange for the collection and eventual return of the clarsach from and to the national office in Edinburgh.
  9. Clarsachs are not insured by the Society.  Hirers should include the clarsach in their own domestic insurance policy, or to arrange a separate policy, against loss or damage while in their care.
  10. Clarsachs are supplied with a soft carrying case and a tuning key.  The replacement of strings with ones of the correct type and gauge is the responsibility of the hirer.  Any damage sustained by hired clarsachs must be reported to the National Office at once.
  11. The Society reserves the right to have reasonable access to its instruments during the period of hire for the purposes of inspection or insurance.
  12. Failure to comply with any of the above conditions may jeopardise the right of a person to continue the hire.
