Amy Moar – A Tribute

We were very much saddened this week to hear of the death of clarsach player Amy Moar.  Amy was often to be seen at the EIHF as a participant both as a performer with Na Clarsairean and at many of the classes and events.  Her contribution to the ground breaking Equilibrium in 2014 will keep her in our memories and that of the wider harp world forever.  Amy was due to lead a workshop with Equilibrium at this year’s Edinburgh International Harp Festival with her creative partner Rhona Smith and Pete Sparkes of Drake Music Scotland, news will be circulated in the coming weeks about what will now happen with this workshop.  Amy was much loved by all who met her.

“All I can say is that Amy was a big, beautiful personality in a tiny, fragile body. She was a fine, sensitive musician who inspired those who played alongside her in the harp orchestra. I personally will remember her robust humour and wry comments as we practised tricky passages in the music.  How we will miss her!“ (Isobel Mieras – Artistic Adviser, Edinburgh International Harp Festival)

“Always a ray of sunshine at branch meetings. She took so much joy in music-making and will be sadly missed” (Sheona Ure – Convener, The Clarsach Society Edinburgh Branch)

Drake Music Scotland have a lovely tribute on their website which you can read here.

Amy’s family has set up a Just Giving page for the Amy Moar Legacy Fund supporting the charities which were important to Amy. If you wish to donate, you can find the link here.
